Black man charged with hate crime against White people

A Black man has been charged with a hate crime after allegedly threatening to kill White people at a Walgreens in Columbia Missouri.

Context: The suspect, Mark Elliot Lewis, allegedly walked into a Walgreens and started yelling at a pharmacy tech while she was trying to help another customer.

  • Lewis allegedly told the tech “I’m gonna start killing white people.”
  • The tech later told law enforcement that she thought Lewis was going to pull out a gun, or come back to the store in 10 minutes and harm people.

Ongoing Developments: Lewis has been charged with harassment motivated by discrimination to frighten or disturb another person.

  • He is currently being held at the Boone County Jail on a $75,000 bond.
